  • Sunday Morning, June 19, 2011: The Worthy Thirty

    Welcome to Another Worthy 30™

RAW 241 has created a way for wrestlers of a very high level to get together and train as a group. Many of you have taken your kid(s) to wrestling camps and/or clinics and found that the talent level may not be so "level" --- by contrast, the concept and idea of The Worthy 30 is to eliminate that concern completely.

By design, The Worthy 30 is properly organized into four (4) age brackets: Phase I ( 10-13 yr. olds); Phase II ( Middle School); Phase III ( High School) & Phase IV ( College). The qualifications and requirements for each Phase are different. For example, in Phase III ( High School) the requirements are one must either be a State Medalists ( Gold,Silver or Bronze) from his home state, or he must have placed at a National Event ( e.g. Fargo,FILA's, etc...).

The class itself is comprised of several routines that we use at RAW 241. We include a very sharp and detailed drilling segment, focusing on all aspects of a proper shot ( set-up, type of shot & the finish). Additionally, we incorporate video break-down: we will view a World Class wrestler and understand why he is successful, and we will also watch and see why someone else may not have been successful. The live wrestling in this setting will trump that of what you get at a tournament - by far. At a typical tournament you will wrestle 3-4 times. You will spend the entire day at that event, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. In that time period, you may only wrestle another state or national level wrestler once ( maybe twice). That is 12 hours of time spent, hotel, travel, gas, tolls, food and entry fee to the event, weight cutting, a day off of work....all for the chance to POSSIBLY lock horns with one (1) opponent with a National name. The Worthy 30 will place your son in an environment where he will be challenged by the others in the group. There will be no "down" time. Every wrestler he is placed with in the session will be as good, or better! Iron SHARPENS Iron!!

The final piece of the session is a hallmark of RAW 241 Training - Functional Training. We will put your son through an "NFL Combine" type routine. It includes Plyometrics, AB Bands & RAW Ball....your son will sleep very well that evening - and be rather humble in the morning

  • Sunday, June 19, 2011: Thoroughbred Clinics

RAW 241 is hosting another of it's Thoroughbred Clinics

Special Guests Clinicians
Jordan Burroughs & Darrion Caldwell

Over the past 3 NCAA seasons, these two young man have captivated the imagination of the wrestling community. Both have pulled off amazing "upsets" and both have been undefeated NCAA champs. Between the two of them, in 3 NCAA finals ( 2 for
Burroughs, 1 for Caldwell) they only surrendered 1 takedown. Metcalf was th
e defending champion and O.W. - Metcalf also was the Hodge Trophy winner the season before.

Darrion was the 2009 149 lb. champion and O.W. His incredible, dominating victory over Brent Metcalf ( Iowa) was a shock to the wrestling world. He had 4 td's in that match, giving up only a "prevent defense" type of td with less than 15 seconds left in the bout ( while he was way ahead on the scoreboard).

Caldwell, the N.C. State graduate, is a frontrunner for the 66 kg slot for Team USA 2012 ( Olympics).

In his NCAA career,
Caldwell was 3 x All American ( 1 x Champion). While in HS he was a 3x NJ State champion, while competing for Rahway. In his senior season as a Wolfpack star, he entered the NCAA's as the undefeated #1 seed, prior to leaving the event prematurely, due to a pre-existing shoulder injury.

During the 2009 & 2011 seasons, no one has been as overpowering and dominant as
Jordan Burroughs. The Sicklerville, NJ native has amassed 2 undefeated seasons to springboard him into his 2 NCAA titles. He was so explosive in 2011 that he was not taken down (last taken down in 2010). At the NCAA tourney, he didn't even allow anyone to get in on a leg, let alone score. His stance, motion and footwork - coupled with his hand and head position - are unmatched by any wrestler in the U.S. ( regardless of age/division). In his final two appearances at NCAAs he was NOT taken down.

Burroughs was this season's
Hodge Trophy winner ( the equivalent to the Heisman). He has already put his name on the ballot ( so to speak) for the 2012 Olympic Team. He has defeated all comers in the weight class (74 kg) along with defeating a Russian, to boot.
